One Time Mountain Releases A New Single “Athena”. Trust Me It’s Good!
One Time Mountain has a yet to be named Ep coming out later this year. Ahead of its release they give us a new single Athena. It’s been awhile since we heard from the band and now they are a trio. The band consists of Alex Nekrylau (Bass/Vocals), Brian Murphy (Guitars) and Matt Valliere (Drums). I don’t about you, but I’m ecstatic that the boys finally put out a new song and eventually a new record. Athena didn’t disappoint, it is better than I could have ever imagined. The first thing you’ll notice is that it’s much heavier than what they have put it out in the past. Murphy’s heavy riffs really get your attention and really set the tone of the song, very dark.
Nekrylou’s singing pulls you in and then when he sings the line “Who Let All This Madness Arise?” is perfect, I’m not sure if it’s the style he sings it or the delivery but I found it to be very cool. I would be remiss to not mention his bass playing, part of what makes the song sound heavier and moodier. The surprise from a vocal point which I wasn’t expecting was Valliere singing the lyric “It Must Have Hurt Like Hell”, is a wow moment in the song. It also sets up Murphy’s guitar solo which is a melodic shred that fits just right. The hidden gem of the song is Valliere’s drumming. How he heightens Nekrylau’s vocals and keeps up with Murphy’s soloing. To me as I say it’s eargasmic. The harmonies are nothing to sneeze at either. Musically, I have missed these guys and this will me over for a bit but now I can’t wait hear the rest of what they have. But this is a dame good comeback from their hiatus.
The video is a lyrical one that is an interesting watch, especially when you get to the end. The band displays their new logo in a cool way. The guys really put a lot of thought in the imagery and the song. This is a good precursor of what is to come. Did I mention how much I missed these guys. In any event, I don’t think you will be regret listening to this one. Check it out below.
