The Black Keys Releases A Modern Sounding Cover Of R.L. Burnside’s “Going Down South”!

The Black Keys will be releasing a new album on May 14th titled “Delta Kream”. You can pre-order it here. The album is dedicated to Southern Blues. I find it interesting that they got that specific, but cool at the same time. The second single from the forthcoming record is a cover of R.L. Burnside’s Going Down South. This is a much slicker version of the tune versus the original. That’s not a bad thing, it just updates it a little. They also extended it a bit longer as well which is always a good thing. The highlight is the jam in the middle of the song. It’s Blues bliss.

The video shows the band performing the track as well as the underbelly of the south in this case Mississippi. I’m not sure how that ties into the lyrics but certainly an unexpected view of the South. On a side note some of the performers on the track feature some of Burnside’s players, Kenny Brown and Eric Deaton. Both of which are in the video. Check it out below.
