Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers have a new retrospective collection coming out on March 1st titled “The Best of Everything”. You can pre-order it here. The song For Real seems like Tom Petty was reflecting over his career. When you see the following lyrics;
“I didn’t do it for no magazine Didn’t do it for no video Never did it for no CEO But I did it for real”
I think you get the picture. It seems Petty has some gold in unreleased material, this being one of them. There really isn’t a video, just a black and white stream of a turntable playing the track. I think that kind of suits the song and the way Petty would have preferred it, simple but to the point. It’s about the music nothing else. Check it out below.
